The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
